"ESKASIZER/Jennifer 01" By Rosane Chamecki
Who does not remember one of the first electric machine that promised to firm our bodies, the 1950’s Eskaziser belt machines? The advertising of the beautiful mother in the basement, massaging her waist, in the hope of toning the undeniable erosion of the aging body. In ESKASIZER, four women, of various ages, heritage and shapes, are manipulated by the Eskasizer machine. They present their hips, knees, legs, in search of movement, an organic movement, in spite of its source. In ESKASIZER/Jennifer 01, her body is not acting on her own impulses and desires, it is passive, yield to these external forces. Is there still presence, in this body? Does it still emerge with its own unique luminosity, texture, weight? Does it maintain any vitality? ESKASIZER transforms the body into a perplexing landscape and a meditative and subversive experience of the flesh. ESKASIZER, by chameckilerner was commissioned and supported via production residency by EMPAC I Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY. Directed by: chameckilerner , Director of Photography: Frank Stanley, Music: Josephine Wiggs, Producer: Tanja Meding , Performed by: Jennifer Kjos.
