“Natalya Electric No 2 (Pink)” is a digital photograph / light painting by artist Indira Cesarine which was created in 2020 as part of her series "The Labyrinth". Featuring model Natalya Piro, the artwork emphasizes the surreal power of light to engage and reflect on our own stream of subconscious while provoking the tangibility of perceived realities. Using the technique of light painting invented by Man Ray in 1937, “Natalya Electric No 2 (Pink)” emphasizes Cesarine's female gaze on Surrealism, while exploring narratives of female identity, sexuality, dreams, and desires which have been returning themes in Cesarine’s artwork throughout her career. The body painting featured in the artwork was inspired by early Surreal photography as well as Mexican Calavera paintings. "As a Mexican American artist, I often find inspiration from my heritage and incorporate subtle details while maintaining a contemporary approach. I have been exploring themes of Surrealism in my work since my very first forays into photography. Experimental techniques such as solarization, light painting, and double exposures have played an important part of my visual narrative, which often employs nuances of fractured light.“
